Game 3 college world series

“We started this year winning four games in a row,” veteran first baseman Anthony Rizzo said before Game 4. “We know we’re very capable of winning four games in a row. https://gentingbola.com/ So hopefully we can end this year winning four games in a row. That’s what we have to do to be champions.”

The Dodgers also announced plans to use the World Series games at Dodger Stadium to pay tribute to former pitcher Fernando Valenzuela, who died shortly before the 2024 World Series and who was vital to the team’s 1981 championship season.

In the fifth, the Yankees committed a series of errors and defensive mistakes that allowed the Dodgers to tie the score. After a leadoff single by Kiké Hernandez, Judge committed his first error of the season, dropping a routine fly ball off the bat of Tommy Edman that put runners on first and second. Anthony Volpe then committed a throwing error while trying to throw out Hernandez at third on Will Smith’s ground ball, which loaded the bases with no outs. Cole responded by striking out Gavin Lux and Shohei Ohtani, but a slow ground ball from Mookie Betts resulted in an RBI infield single when first baseman Anthony Rizzo did not charge the bag after fielding the ball and Cole did not cover first base; had this play been made, the inning would have ended with no runs scored. With the Dodgers’ deficit now 5–1 and the bases still loaded, Freddie Freeman then hit a two-run single and Teoscar Hernández a two-run double, tying the game at 5–all, with all five runs unearned.

That the Yankees have made it this far after a dismal first three games is already something of an accomplishment: The past nine teams to fall behind 3-0 in the World Series ended up getting swept, with the 1970 Reds the most recent team down 3-0 to force a Game 5. But the Yankees are hardly satisfied.

In the bottom of the inning, Treinen allowed a one-out double to Judge and a walk, but induced a flyout to Stanton and struck out Rizzo to complete 2+1⁄3 scoreless innings of relief in his longest outing of the season. With the Dodgers still maintaining a one-run lead heading into the bottom of the ninth, and with very few remaining bullpen options available, Dave Roberts called on Game 3 starter Walker Buehler to close out the game and season. Buehler, on one day’s rest, pitched a perfect ninth inning, striking out Austin Wells and Alex Verdugo for the final two outs and clinching the title for Los Angeles.

When is game 5 of the world series

4) Can Flaherty keep the Dodgers’ rotation humming? If you hadn’t paid attention to baseball for most of the regular season and just tuned into the World Series, you would think the Dodgers made it this far because they have the rotation of the ‘90s Braves. All three current L.A. rotation members — Flaherty, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Walker Buehler — have been excellent in this World Series. And, well, as we watched the Dodgers’ bullpen game blow up in their face in Game 4, it’s a good thing they have been.

Let us not forget that one of the primary storylines heading into this series concerned whether Freeman would even be available to play, and if so, if his sprained ankle would continue to hinder him. Instead, he’s blasting homers every night and even got down the line quickly to beat out a potential ground-ball double play to bring home another run in Game 4.

• Teams are now 7-227 when trailing by at least five runs in World Series games and 20-624 in postseason history when trailing by at least five. The other World Series comebacks from five down, aside from the Dodgers: The Phillies in 2022 Game 1, Angels in 2002 Game 6, Yankees in 1996 Game 4, Blue Jays in 1993 Game 4, Dodgers in 1956 Game 2 and A’s in 1929 Game 4.

With Arizona in a must-win situation, Randy Johnson pitched seven innings and struck out seven, giving up just two runs, and Bobby Witt and Troy Brohawn finished the blowout. The Diamondbacks struck first when Tony Womack hit a leadoff double off of Andy Pettitte and scored on Danny Bautista’s single in the first. Next inning, Womack’s bases-loaded single scored two and Bautista’s single scored another. The Yankees loaded the bases in the third on a single and two walks, but Johnson struck out Jorge Posada to end the inning. The Diamondbacks broke the game open with eight runs in the bottom half. Pettitte allowed a leadoff walk to Greg Colbrunn and subsequent double to Matt Williams before being relieved by Jay Witasick, who allowed four straight singles to Reggie Sanders, Jay Bell, Damian Miller, and Johnson that scored three runs. After Womack struck out, Bautista’s single scored two more runs and Luis Gonzalez’s double scored another, with Bautista being thrown out at home. Colbrunn’s single and Williams’s double scored a run each before Sanders struck out to end the inning. In the fourth, Bell reached first on a strike-three wild pitch before scoring on Miller’s double. Johnson struck out before Womack singled to knock Witasick out of the game. With Randy Choate pitching, Yankees second baseman Alfonso Soriano’s error on Bautista’s ground ball allowed Miller to score and put runners on first and second before Gonzalez’s single scored the Diamondbacks’ final run. Choate and Mike Stanton kept them scoreless for the rest of the game. Pettitte was charged with six runs in two innings while Witasick was charged with nine runs in 1+1⁄3 innings, the most runs allowed by any pitcher in a World Series game since Hall of Famer Walter Johnson also allowed nine runs in Game 7 of the 1925 World Series. The Yankees scored their only runs in the sixth on back-to-back one-out singles by Shane Spencer and Luis Sojo with runners on second and third, but by then the score had become so far out of reach that it didn’t do the Yankees much good. The Diamondbacks hit six doubles and Danny Bautista batted 3-for-4 with five RBIs. The team set a World Series record with 22 hits and defeated the New York Yankees in its most lopsided postseason loss in 293 postseason games, since surpassed by a 16–1 loss to the Boston Red Sox in Game 3 of the 2018 American League Division Series. The 15–2 win evened the series at three games apiece and set up a Game 7 for the ages between Roger Clemens and Curt Schilling.

24 The closest any Arizona professional team came to winning a championship was the NBA’s Phoenix Suns, who made it to the championship series in 1976 and 1993. The 1976 team lost to the Celtics in six games and the 1993 team lost to the Chicago Bulls in six games.
